Land Settlement Act (No. 15 of 1939).

This Act makes provision for some aspects relating to the settlement on land. The Cabinet may, by Order, declare any area of Crown land to a settlement area. A settlement area shall be destined for the settlement of small agricultural holdings and the land allocated shall be subject to restrictions as to the disposal of the land and crops thereon. The Act further provides for regulation-making powers of the Cabinet.

This Act makes provision, among other things, for the disposal of lands of the Land Settlement and Development Board as established under the Land Settlement and Development Board Act and the use of the Fund established under the same Act. Lands held by the Board immediately before the coming into force of this Act shall be surrendered to and vested in the Crown.

The Act gives interpretations of various terms used in other legislation of Papua New Guinea and provides for definitions, rules and principles applicable to all Acts and Instruments and the interpretation of references in such legislation. References include a reference to "Administration land" or an "Administration lease".The interpretations include: “archipelagic waters”, "custom”, “customary land”, “interest in land” , “internal waters”, “land”, “offshore seas”, “owner” (in relation to land) and “territorial sea”.

Land is the public property and it shall not be liable to sale, exchange, donation, mortgage except for cases envisaged by the national legislation. Legal persons can manage land parcels on condition of land usufruct, permanent use, temporary use, and lease, while natural persons can manage land parcels on condition of lifelong hereditary land tenure, temporary land tenure and lease. Sublease of the plots of land conceded on lease shall be prohibited.

This Act makes provision for various matters in relation with the government of Tonga including the Cabinet, the Privy Council, the Legislative Assembly, Ministers and local authorities.The Minister of Lands shall be the representative of the Crown in all matters concerning the land of Tonga. Any District Officer may make Regulations for the administration of village plantations and other necessary matters relating to the welfare of the people of his village. Such Regulations shall be valid only if sanctioned by the Cabinet.

Crown Property (Vesting) Act.

This Act makes provision for the appointment of the Commissioner of Lands and the vesting of Crown property in the Commissioner. The Act also provides for the incorporation of the Accountant-General and the holding and disposal of land by the corporation. The Act defines rights in respect of petroleum or minerals severed, pursuant to other legislation, from the land vested in the Commissioner.

Land Valuation Act.

This Act provides rules for the valuation of public and private land and all trees standing on it by the Commissioner of Land Valuations and makes provision with respect to matters related to valuation such as access to land or buildings, appeal against decisions and the division of Jamaica into valuation districts. The Commissioner shall, in each district, make a valuation of the unimproved and improved value of every parcel of land.

This Chapter contains rules relative to the allocation of agricultural leases. The Chapter, among other things: concerns applications for a lease; prescribes criteria for the assessment of an application; prescribes the form of a lease; and require the Department of Agriculture to process applications and to determine the best agricultural use for land subject to lease. The Department shall also make periodic inspections of leased land.

These Regulations contain rules relative to the leasing of specified government land.
