Naming


Chulalongkorn University was established in 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) who named it after his father, King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who laid the foundations for modern education in Thailand.

The Potsdam Nobel Laureates Symposium “Global Sustainability – A Nobel Cause” brought together internationally renowned scientists and decision-makers under the patronage of German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel in 2007. The symposium produced the highly regarded Potsdam Memorandum, which calls for a joint effort to tap into “all sources of innovation and invention” to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. Specifically, it identifies the need for a new “global contract” to increase sustainability in the age of the Anthropocene.

Land Core Group is a Myanmar NGO based in Yangon that works to raise awareness of land issues, and promote policy reform to support small scale farmers and forest dependent peoples throughout Myanmar. Our project activities are as follows

- Conduct research on various aspects of land issues

- Land Rights and Land Law TOT and grassroots trainings

- Advocacy to promote stronger land tenure in policy and law

University of the South Pacific

The University of the South Pacific, as one of two regional universities in the world, is supported by 12 Pacific Island Countries - Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.  The University graduated its first cohort of 32 students in 1971 and during the intervening years over 44,000 graduates have successfully completed their studies.  Today the university has an enrolment of over 29,000 students studying in all 12 countries.
