In terms of innovative mechanisms, economic and financial mechanisms that rely on regulationand markets to provide incentives for environmental stewardship are also relevant. These mechanisms include different types of regulations and direct or indirect payments schemes, for example tradable development rights, trading of emission reduction and payment for environmental services.
Investment based mechanisms, like microfinance, are other types of mechanism that can provide financing for UNCCD and SLM practises.

Land degradation exacerbates the unique vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to environmental challenges, such as climate change, flash floods, soil erosion, lagoon siltation, coastal erosion and sea level rise, undermining their economic potential. Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in SIDS, preserving biodiversity and increasing resilience to climate change. Land degradation has a strong negative impact on climate-sensitive sectors like agriculture, water resources management and coastal zone management.

Una vez más, por cuarto año consecutivo, Land Matrix Lac pone a disposición de la sociedad en general una herramienta que busca visibilizar diversas situaciones de acaparamiento de tierras en América Latina. A partir de los casos de grandes transacciones cargados en la base de datos de Land Matrix Lac, los investigadores de 7 institutos académicos de diversos países de la región, demuestran con sus estudios los alcances de los efectos sociales y ambientales de las grandes transacciones de tierra y las posibilidades de mitigar el acaparamiento en la región.

Cada fin de año, el conteo de victimizaciones a defensoras y defensores de derechos humanos en Colombia da cuenta de cifras en aumento y del riesgo que representa esta labor en el país. Este aumento ha sido notorio tras la firma del Acuerdo de Paz

con las FARC-EP. Así lo señaló la Oficina del Alto Comisionado para los Derechos Humanos (UN-OHCHR) para el caso de los asesinatos:

El objetivo general de este trabajo es contribuir a la defensa y protección de las personas defensoras de derechos humanos para el fortalecimiento de sus luchas por el Derecho a la Tierra, la Defensa de la Madre Tierra, el territorio y el ambiente.

Este trabajo presenta un panorama de la defensa ambiental en el Perú, considerando en primer lugar las principales dinámicas económicas y productivas relacionadas con la gestión de los recursos naturales. En segundo lugar, se analizan los estándares internacionales aplicables, como resultado en su mayoría de las decisiones asumidas por el Estado en ejercicio de su soberanía.

The study reviews the land policy in Zimbabwe and investigates the extent to which the policy provides incentives for investment and technology adoption to increase labour productivity in the agricultural sector. The research is based on a desk study of relevant literature and land policies implemented by the Zimbabwe government since 1980. This is complemented by empirical data drawn from various organisations that have been tracking the progress of the land reform programme.

This paper explores the impact of large-scale agricultural investment on household livelihood outcomes among smallholder farmers in Kilombero Valley, Tanzania. The study used qualitative and quantitative data from a sample of 376 households. Quantitative data analysis employed independent samples t-test and multiple linear regressions. There were associations in livelihood outcomes and household headship (p < 0.05).

To address food insecurity, the Government of Ethiopia embarked on a rapid transformation in the agriculture sector to increase production, productivity, market access and create employment opportunities by promoting large scale agricultural investment projects. However, progress towards achieving set objectives has been rather limited so far due to various challenges. One of the major challenges is that information on commercial farming is outdated and unreliable for decision making.

 ABSTARCTA common limiting factor to the development of agriculture on the continent is the amorphous land administration laws and practices which in certain locations, is dominated by traditional administration and inheritance among an ever-increasing population, leading to fragmentation of available land with little available for commercial agriculture.Using desk reviews of previous studies, this research aimed to analyse the causative factors of ineffective land-based investments especially in agricultural production with a view to harnessing the huge potentials of land-based investments

This paper aims to explore implications of large-scale land investment for local citizenship, with a particular focus on customs and mobility. The concept of local citizenship is a neglected aspect of land investment debates. We argue that the use of the concept helps us to identify how large-scale land investments work to invoke the hegemonic and customary power of indigenes and undermine local citizenship identity of migrants.
