Piloting innovations for improved data collection and management to support livestock monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions in Ethiopia

December, 2020
Ethiopia

To complement an ongoing CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) project ‘Enhancing capacities for MRV of sustainable livestock action in East Africa (Kenya and Ethiopia),’ which is implemented by UNIQUE forestry and land use and CCAFS, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) supported CCAFS to implement a Small Research Activity (SRA) entitled ‘Building capacities for an integrated livestock MRV system in Ethiopia’.

CCAFS impact assessment of national policy engagement in Kenya on uptake of climate-smart agriculture technologies and practices

December, 2019
Kenya

This study assessed the impact of engagements by the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) at policy and household levels in Kenya. Specifically, the study assessed the extent to which CCAFS engagement contributed to the observed changes in terms of shaping policy and climate-smart agriculture (CSA) coordination among others.

NATURE+ in India - Report 2023 & Outlook 2024

December, 2022
India

In India, the CGIAR Initiative on Nature-Positive Solutions works in remote parts of Western India’s Maharashtra State. NATURE+ and its partners selected several sites (called clusters) for their high potential for implementing nature-positive activities to improve nutrition, climate resilience, food security and to conserve nature. People in these tribal areas also have rich traditional knowledge that is key to natural solutions.

Mainstreaming access and benefit sharing in agricultural Research and Development: a workshop for researchers, practitioners and policy makers in selected African countries and organizations

December, 2021
Global

The workshop Mainstreaming access and benefit sharing in agricultural Research and Development: a workshop for researchers, practitioners and policy makers in selected African countries and organizations was held at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Addis Ababa from the 21st to the 24th of November 2022.
The workshop was co-organized by the African Union Commission, ILRI and the CGIAR Genebank Initiative, and funded by the CGIAR Genebank Initiative.

Modeling genotype × environment × management interactions for a sustainable intensification under rainfed wheat cropping system in Morocco

December, 2022
Morocco

Under the conditions of Moroccan rainfed agricultural areas, wheat cropping systems—the population’s basic staple food—are subject to a set of limitations that seasonally impact crop production and farmers’ incomes, thus national food security. In the last decades, the major constraints were often related to the country’s Mediterranean-type climate, through the intense recurrence of drought events and high inter- and intra-annual rainfall fluctuations.

Climate Smart Crop-Small Ruminant Value Chain: a Rapid Assessment of Gender Gaps and Opportunities In Doyogena, SNNPR, Ethiopia

December, 2021
Ethiopia

The majority of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia depend on rainfall-fed subsistence agriculture for their livelihoods and are highly vulnerable to climate change and variability. To address the negative impacts of climate change, climate-smart agriculture technologies are implemented and practiced in Doyogena climate-smart landscape. However, there are specific CSA activities that need gender mainstreaming.

Sustainable intensification of small-scale aquaculture production in Myanmar through diversification and better management practices

December, 2022
Myanmar

Small-scale aquaculture systems can contribute significantly to food and nutritional security, poverty alleviation, and rural development, especially in developing countries. However, the intensification of aquaculture systems often has negative environmental outcomes. The adoption of diversification practices (e.g. polyculture, pond-dike cropping (PDC)) and better management practices (BMPs) has been identified as a possible approach to intensify sustainably small-scale aquaculture production.

Options for improved livestock activity data collection and management to support measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) in Ethiopia

December, 2020
Ethiopia

To complement an ongoing CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) project ‘Enhancing capacities for MRV of sustainable livestock action in East Africa (Kenya and Ethiopia)’, which is implemented by UNIQUE forestry and land use, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) supported CCAFS to implement a Small Research Activity (SRA) entitled ‘Building capacities for an integrated livestock MRV system in Ethiopia’.

Review of Nationally Determined Contributions (NCD) of Vietnam from the perspective of food systems

December, 2022
Global

Over the past decades, Vietnam has significantly progressed and has transformed from being a food-insecure nation to one of the world’s leading exporters in food commodities, and from one of the world’s poorest countries to a low-middle-income country. The agriculture sector is dominated by rice and plays a vital role in food security, employment, and foreign exchange. Vietnam submitted its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in 2022 based on the NDC 2020.

Climate Change and Gender Action Plan of Mali

December, 2022
Mali

Mali is a landlocked, Sahelian country of West Africa. The Climate Change Vulnerability Index produced by ND-GAIN in 2016 ranked Mali as the 166th out of 181 most at climate change affected-risk countries in the world. It is the 9th most vulnerable country and the 43rd least ready country to address climate change effects. Bundling cash loans with agricultural input loans for farmers in Nigeria: A pilot study

December, 2022
Nigeria

Credit allows borrowers to access funds required to make an investment before returns materialize. For smallholder farmers, who must invest in agricultural inputs (i.e., seeds, chemicals, equipment, land, and labor) during the planting season before earning income from the sale of agricultural produce after harvest, credit helps alleviate liquidity constraints and promotes the ability of local agricultural production to support nutrition and food security. In rural Nigeria, access to credit—especially formal credit from financial institutions—is limited.
