Nowadays , demographic pressure on water and land resources is progressively increasing and their sustainability features have increasingly been under threat so these resources are required to using effectively. Large part of food requirements meet from irrigable area.

Günümüzde arazi ve su kaynaklarına olan demografik baskının artması ve su kaynaklarının sürdürebilir olma niteliklerinin gün geçtikçe tehlikeye girmesi, su kaynakların etkin kullanımı ihtiyacını arttırmaktadır. Gıda ihtiyacının büyük bir kısmı sulanabilir alanlardan sağlanmaktadır.

In Turkey, to adapt EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the Agricultural Reform Implementation Project (ARIP) has been carried out. However, due to inadequate spatial data infrastructure, the effectiveness of the projects within the ARIP has been considerably weak. In this study, some investigations were held within the Directorate of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) in Trabzon Province. In the light of the investigations and legislative-technical works on the application of the CAP in EU as well, basic necessities were determined.

This study was carried out to determine optimal crop pattern in sustainable irrigation project area of 8328 hectare in the Demirdöven Irrigation Project Area for the arid, normal and rainy years by taking into consideration seasonal water requirements, irrigation area size, water sources, maximum or minimum cropped area sizes and total and net income per unit area by using a linear programming method. In order to determine optimal crop pattern, QSBWIN packed program was used.

Since Turkey has been complimented as one of the gene centers of the world, the biological diversity of Turkey has to be preserved to be be used when necessary. Biological diversity indicates the economical and genetical wealth, and it ensures important benefits in medicine, agriculture industry and food safety.

Realizing sustainable urban development requires setting planning processes on ecological grounds and a design approach that strengthens ecology-economics-energy relations for a life consistent with nature.
