Sudan E-Agriculture Strategy and Action Plan (2018-2022)
The E-agriculture Strategy and Action Plan, based on Sudan's National Agriculture Investment Plan (SUDNAIP) 2016-2020, outlines a roadmap for leveraging ICT developments to achieve Sudan's agricultural vision. This vision aims for excellence in e-solutions adoption to transform agriculture, fostering rapid, sustainable growth, including smallholders, and forging strong connections to agricultural industrialization. The potential of e-agriculture to meet Sudan's agricultural goals is highlighted in several areas, including improving national agricultural research and information systems, facilitating trade, enhancing disaster management, advising policies, promoting sustainable farming, and improving data availability for food safety. Notably, e-agriculture also aims to improve forest governance and use ICT for land administration and management. A detailed monitoring and evaluation plan is proposed for the Action Plan's implementation in three phases.
Despite Sudan's rich natural resources, its agriculture sector has underperformed due to structural problems such as low productivity, high marketing costs, and poor economic and sectoral policies. Distortions in land rights have led to land resource misuse, exacerbating low productivity. The document emphasizes that addressing these issues is crucial for attracting private sector engagement and achieving sustained growth in the sector. The SUDNAIP (2016-2020) is seen as a renewed opportunity for Sudan to tackle these challenges and boost its agriculture sector.
