The Act consists of 145 sections divided into 14 Parts: Preliminary (I); The Zambia Wildlife Authority (II); Community Resources Board (III); National Parks (IV); Game Management Areas (V); Game animals and protected animals (VI); Licences (VII); Hunting of wild animals (VIII); Killing, wounding or molesting wild animals (IX); Trophies (X); Sale and transfer of wildlife animals and of meat of wildlife animals (XI); Import and export of wild animals, meat and trophies (XII); Enforcement provisions (XIII); Offences, penalties and forfeitures (XIV).The Zambia Wildlife Authority is established as a body corporate under section 3. Functions of the Authority shall include, inter alia: to control, manage, conserve, protect and administer National Parks, bird sanctuaries, wildlife sanctuaries and Game Management Areas and coordinate activities in such areas; in partnership with local communities, to share the responsibilities of management in Game Management Areas; and to issue licences and permits under this Act (sect. 5). A local community along geographic boundaries contiguous in a Game Management Area or an open area or a particular chiefdom with common interest in the wildlife and natural resources in that area, may apply to the Authority for registration as a community resources board (sect. 6). A board shall establish a fund to enhance the economic and social well-being of the local community within the area. The President may declare national parks under section 10. Sections 11 and 12 concern land rights and other rights in a national park. Sections 14 and following prohibit or place restrictions on various activities in national parks. The President may, after consultation with the authority and the local community, declare any area of land within the Republic to be a Game Management Area for the sustainable utilisation of wildlife and for the purposes of this Act (sect. 26). Section 33 specifies hunting licences that may be granted under this Act. The Minister may issue special licences under section 40. (completed by A Schedule containing rules regarding administration of the Authority. The Minister shall also have the power to make Regulations on specified matters covered by this Act including the implementation of Zambia's obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity of 1992.
