Integrating APSIM model with machine learning to predict wheat yield spatial distribution

LandLibrary Resource
Diciembre, 2022
Global

Traditional simulation models are often point based; thus, more research is needed to emphasize spatial simulation, providing decision-makers with fast recommendations. Combining machine learning algorithms with spatial process-based models could be considered an appropriate solution.

Institutionalization of the water-energy-food-environment nexus in the Niger Basin

Global

In less than one year the Niger Basin Authority, an intergovernmental body tasked with the sustainable development of the Niger waters and associated resources, passed the first ever nexus policy in a transboundary river basin, contributing to a true acceleration of change for improved water and associated development in the Niger River Basin.

Tackling conflicts, supporting livelihoods: Convivial conservation in the Campo Ma'an National Park

LandLibrary Resource
Diciembre, 2022
Global

While most of the literature on park management and nature conservation has focused on the negative implications
for local people’s livelihoods, fewer studies have empirically analysed local people’s strategies in responding to these
policies and renegotiating their position to continue their traditional livelihoods using their traditional knowledge

Adoption and impacts of improved post-harvest technologies on food security and welfare of maize-farming households in Tanzania: a comparative assessment

During the last decade, post-harvest losses (PHL) reduction has been topping the agenda of governments as a pathway for addressing food security, poverty, and nutrition challenges in Africa.

Alternative cropping and feeding options to enhance sustainability of mixed crop-livestock farms in Bangladesh

Bangladesh

We investigated alternative cropping and feeding options for large (>10 cows), medium (5–10 cows) and small (≤4 cows) mixed crop – livestock farm types, to enhance economic and environmental performance in Jhenaidha and Meherpur districts – locations with increasing dairy production – in south western Bangladesh.

Maize stover transfers from maize fields to banana-based agroforestry homegardens and the corresponding nutrient flows in central-northern Tanzania

LandLibrary Resource

Global

Maize (Zea mays) stover produced in the drier lowland areas on the volcanic foot slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro serves as an important additional fodder for smallholder zero-grazed dairy cattle farming in the humid highland areas of the region.

Collection and characterization of cassava germplasm in Comoros

LandLibrary Resource
Diciembre, 2022
Comoros

In Comoros, cassava plays a major food security role, however yields are low as few modern cultivars are grown. Prior to the introduction of new cultivars, and as a germplasm resource for breeders, germplasm collection missions were undertaken in the three largest islands; Ngazidja, Ndzouani and Mwali; and associated farmer knowledge documented.

Exploring phenotypic variation of diverse bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea L) origin and development of mini-core collection for future breeding

LandLibrary Resource
Diciembre, 2022
Global

Understanding the phenotypic variation and designing a mini-core collection is an efficient method to accelerate the genetic gain of bambara groundnut. A collection of 300 bambara groundnut landraces from 25 different countries of origin sourced from gene banks were used to analyze phenotypic variability among the landraces and develop a mini-core collection for future breeding.

Does residue cover lead to greater frost damage in barley under conservation agriculture?

Mexico

Farmers reported increased frost damage in barley (Hordeum vulgare) sown in conservation agriculture in the Mexican Bajío region during the autumn-winter season. To determine whether this effect is real and whether it reduced crop yield under conservation agriculture, we performed two field experiments and gathered observational data from other experiments and farmers’ fields.
