In semi-arid Kenya, episodes of agricultural droughts of varying severity and duration occur. The occurrence of these agricultural droughts is associated with seasonal rainfall variability and can be reflected by seasonal soil moisture deficits that significantly affect crop productivity. The aim of this study was to analyse agricultural drought, and to evaluate soil and water management options and strategies for sustainable crop production in drought-prone semi-arid Kenya. Research was conducted at an experimental site in Katumani and in Iiuni watershed, both in Machakos district.

The Netherlands submitted data on afforestation, reforestation and deforestation (article 3.3 of the Kyoto Protocol) as well as on additional activities (article 3.4 of the Kyoto Protocol), as requested by the UNFCCC per 1st of August 2000. Article 3.3 under the IPCC scenario gives a 0,011 Mt C sink for the first commitment period. The article 3.4 activities give a source of 12,7 Mt CO2 due to grassland on peatlands, which are a large CO2-source in the Netherlands. Non CO2-gases and soil carbon are excluded

Er is informatie geonventariseerd over maatschappelijke behoeften die in 2015-2020 waarschijnlijk spelen ten aanzien van de groene ruimte en over beheersystemen waarmee agrariërs kunnen inspelen op deze behoeften. Speciale aandacht is uitgegaan naar het effect van de beheersystemen op inkomens van agrariërs en naar de betekenis van de beheersystemen voor drie ruimtelijke kwaliteitsaspecten te weten economisch, sociaal en ecologisch. In totaal zijn twintig beheersystemen gesignaleerd. Zestien daarvan kunnen positief uitpakken voor het inkomen van agrariërs.

Op verzoek van de directie Zuidwest van het Ministerie van Landbouw, Natuurbeheer en Visserij heeft het LEI onderzoek uitgevoerd naar de ruimtedruk in de Zuidelijke Randstad. Hierbij is zowel gekeken naar de huidige als naar de toekomstige ruimtedruk. Ook wordt inzicht gegeven in de diverse prijsvormings- en verwervingsprocessen van grond. Om de regionale verschillen aan te geven zijn 9 landbouwgebieden in Zuid-Holland onderscheiden.

Voor de groeiende biologische landbouw is grond nodig. Die kan voor een deel uit natuurgebieden komen. De leerstoelgroep Rurale Sociologie van WUR onderzocht de wederzijdse voordelen van samenwerking tussen biologische landbouw en natuurbeschermingsorganisaties onder biologische boeren in Overijssel en het noordoostelijke deel van Gelderland. This study is based on research carried out during several periods from mid 1991 to mid 1995 in the ejido La Canoa in Jalisco, western Mexico, and in several government agencies. The study focuses in particular on the period between the 1930s and 1992 when the Mexican agrarian law was fundamentally changed. The last chapters of the book discuss the change of the agrarian law in 1992.
