This publication explores various aspects of the interface between water rights and land tenure. It is intended to synthetize and assess current learning on this topic, to define salient issues and to propose fruitful approaches for further investigation.

En colaboración cone el PNUMA, la FAO ha desarrollado un marco mejorado de planificación para el desarrollo y el manejo de los recursos de la tierra que enfrenta los problemas reconocidos durante la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Ambiente y el Desarrollo, en 1992, en Río de Janeiro, Brasil. Este documento es el último de una serie de tres publicaciones, el cual introduce estos nuevos conceptos y propone un enfoque de planificación integrada para el manejo sostenible de los recursos de la tierra basado en una asociación interactiva entre los gobiernos y la población.

Land and soils constitute the foundation for sustainable agricultural development, essential ecosystem functions and food security. They are key to sustaining life on Earth.

This study investigates the gender dimensions of the socioeconomic outcomes of selected agricultural investments in Northern Tanzania. The report draws on a review of the literature and on field research conducted in 2011. Fieldwork mainly involved stakeholder interviews and focus groups discussions with investors, local farmers, outgrowers and wage workers involved with two private-sector companies – in horticulture and jatropha – and with group-based producer schemes organized with the assistance of a member-based organization.

En 2050, la production alimentaire devra avoir augmenté de 70 pour cent environ dans le monde entier et de près de 100 pour cent dans les pays en développement. The share of agriculture in the GDP declined from 16 percent in the 1990s to almost 14 percent in 2010. Meanwhile, those employed in agriculture as a percent of total labor force is declining since 1960 to 2006. Despite losing labor and share of the GDP, agriculture is, and will continue to be, among the major economic activities in Egypt, and a generator for economic growth. The balance between agriculture and other productive sectors of the economy require proper spatial and land use planning. Land tenure is central to this planning exercise.
