Assessment of the effect of season and location on microbiological and physicochemical quality of livestock drinking water in Ginchi watershed, Ethiopia

This study was conducted at Ginchi watershed in Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia to evaluate the
physical, chemical and microbiological quality of livestock drinking waters during dry, short rain and wet
seasons. Purposive sampling technique was used to obtain samples. Data were collected and analyzed using
descriptive statistics. The analysis showed that the overall mean concentrations (mg/l) were 298.33 TDS, 8.0
pH, 15.78 Na, 2.9 K,128.22 CaCO , 40.89 Ca, 6.32 Mg, 0.26 F, 5.38 Cl, 0.03 NO , 5.68 NO , 2.67 CO 146 alkalinity,

Can we be engineers of property rights to natural resources? some evidence of difficulties from the rural areas of Zimbabwe

The desire for research to be policy relevant has caused many social science studies to have “engineering” dimensions. With respect to the engineering of property rights, economic approaches indicate that we require knowledge regarding the makeup of current property rights structures, how changes to current structures affect the use and management of natural resources, and how property rights have evolved.

To promote a sustainable and improved use of animal genetic resources in developing countries, ILRI in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), and supported by Sida (Sweden), launched a project training the trainers, for national agricultural research systems (NABS) scientists (national university teachers and researchers) in developing countries.

In 1995 a survey of research capacity was conducted at institutions undertaking forestry-related research in the SADC countries. This document presents a review of the methods available for the assessment of research capacity and summarizes previous efforts to assess research capacity in the region. The methodology adopted makes use of common indicators thereby allowing comparisons across institutions.
