La plupart des numros d'Unasylva sont axs sur un thme particulier. L'objectif n'est pas de prsenter une introduction ou un manuel sur le sujet choisi (ce qui serait impossible tant donn le format de la revue), mais plutt de proposer une srie d'analyses sur des aspects spcifiques qui contribuent veiller l'intrt et l'attention du lecteur. Les articles sont dits de faon intresser les lecteurs dont le travail porte essentiellement sur le thme choisi, ainsi que la majorit des lecteurs qui travaillent dans d'autres disciplines.

En el número de junio del Boletín de recursos naturales y medio ambiente nos proponemos examinar la Alianza mundial sobre los suelos, una importante entidad recientemente creada. Especialistas en suelos, personal de organizaciones internacionales, la comunidad de donantes y académicos discuten los logros que pueden derivar de esta iniciativa de colaboración.

To produce the desired results, therefore, watershed management efforts must incorporate "forest hydrology", "soil and water conservation" and "land use planning" into a broader, logical framework that takes into consideration not only physical interrelationships but economic, social and institutional factors as well. The Regional Workshop convened by M S Swaminathan Research Foundation in collaboration with the Bay of Bengal Programme of FAO (BOBP) is designed to address these issues and to develop an action plan for saving the remaining coral reefs in the SAARC region. Since its establishment in 1989, M S S R F has given priority attention to the conservation and sustainable use of Coastal Mangrove ecosystems. In many areas, Mangroves, sea grass meadows and coral reefs constitute an integrated ecosystem. The Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve represents one such integrated ecosystem.

This country report covers the overall situation of forest resources in Guinea-Bissau. The report includes an introduction covering the main aspects of forest resources in the country. The first part gives some general information about what forest resources are available giving some details about the types of vegetation, biodiversity, etc. The second part of the report covers the vegetation coverage according to the national classification.

The performance of many canal irrigation delivery systems is unsatisfactory in terms of: (i) water resources management; (ii) service to irrigated agriculture; and (iii) costeffectiveness of infrastructure management. In recent years, participatory approaches and management transfer reforms have been promoted as part of the solution for more cost-effective and sustainable irrigation services. Large agency-managed systems have been turned over partially or completely to various types of management bodies. However, the results have usually been disappointing.

El estado mundial de la agricultura y la alimentación 2002 es el informe anual de la FAO sobre los acontecimientos y cuestiones actuales relacionados con la agricultura mundial. Se realiza en él un seguimiento de la situación de la agricultura mundial, así como de su entorno económico general, y este año se incluye un examen general del estado de las negociaciones sobre el comercio agrícola, después de la iniciación de una nueva ronda de negociaciones comerciales multilaterales de la Organización Mundial del Comercio.
