New risks and opportunities for food security

Freeing people from hunger will require more and better-targeted investments, innovations, and policy actions, driven by a keen understanding of the dynamic risks and forces that shape the factors affecting people’s access to food and the links with nutrition.

This paper uses an asset-base framework to analyze the determinants of rural growth and sustainable poverty reduction for the three poorest countries in Central America: Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua...Using a combination of GIS mapping techniques, quantitative household analysis, and qualitative analyses of assets and livelihoods, the authors generate a description of rural territories that recognizes the differential effects of policies and asset bundles across space and households.

This annual trends report for agricultural and rural development indicators is a monitoring and evaluation tool. It can be used to facilitate critical assessment of the progress being made in implementing and achieving the goals of Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) and other national developmental goals. CAADP aims at helping African countries to achieve high economic growth through agriculture-led development. The agricultural sector in Kenya contributes significantly to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment.
