Title by Registration (New Register) Act (Cap. 56:51).

This Act directs the Registrar of Titles to make a new register of titles for Dominica. This Act applies only in cases where certificates of title which were registered in the old register have been destroyed. The Act contains rules relative to (application for) registration and evidence of title. The Act also provides for the lodging of caveats for the establishment of interests in land other than freehold and certain leaseholds.

Land Leases Act (Cap. 163).

There shall be maintained in Port Vila a Land Records Office in which shall be kept a register to be known as the Land Leases Register. A Director of Land Records shall be appointed under section 3. The Director shall prepare a survey plan for each parcel of land in accordance with section 10. Effects of registration are defined in section 14 and following. Section 27 defines the priority of registered instruments. Subject to the provisions of this Act (sections 32 to 50) and of any other law, the owner of land may lease the land or part of it to any person for a definite term.

This Order sets out certain obligations of landlords and tenants in their relationship regarding private tenancies. It also empowers district councils to issue notices of unfitness and notices of disrepair in respect of dwelling-houses let under private tenancies and to issue certificates of fitness to be issued in respect of certain dwelling-houses. Rent officers or a rent assessment committee may determine a rent limit in respect of tenancies which are subject to control.
