van Paassen
Barbara van Paassen is an advocate and independent consultant for social and environmental justice. Building on experience in policy making, research and advocacy she supports change makers in strengthening their analysis and evidence-base, strategy and outreach of their work. Focus areas include women’s rights and gender equality, land and natural resources and the role of different actors and civic space in sustainable inclusive development.
Barbara obtained her degrees in Human Geography and International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam. Previous work experiences include the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ActionAid in the Netherlands, where she worked from 2011-2018 as a policy advisor on women's land rights and later as head of policy and campaigns. She has published on issues of trade and investment, women's land rights and gendered impacts of large scale land based investments, as well as policy coherence for development and civic power. Barbara also supports initiatives to promote reflection for effective activism and change, is an associate to the Jai Jagat campaign on Peace and Justice and an Atlantic Fellow for Social and Economic Equity at the London School of Economics.
