This PowerPoint slide deck was developed for the AUDA-NEPAD Sustainable Food Systems Programme Design Workshop. The workshop was aligned with the implementation of recommendations of the 2021 Africa Common Position on Food Systems and the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) framework. The workshop was the first of a series of planned workshops on this topic.

Support to agriculture producers is provided in different forms, including border measures, domestic subsidies, and income transfers from taxpayers to producers.

The Athi Kapiti conservancies and ranches wildlife game count was conducted on 4th June 2023. The count aimed at establishing the current wildlife population and spatial distribution in the Athi Kapiti landscape following concerns raised by landowners of declined wildlife populations in the area after a severe drought and increased human activities.

Smallholder farming in the southern African region is characterised by low agricultural production and productivity, whereas food and nutrition insecurity is characterised by an insecure livelihood activity for most people who depend on it. The challenge confronting the sector is to increase food production and its incomeearning capacity under an increasingly complex climatic environment.

Increased reliance on fertilizers and pesticides in rice production has proven unsustainable and ineffective due to soil depletion and pesticide-induced pest outbreaks, rising fertilizer costs, and the negative effects of pesticide and fertilizer use on human health and the environment.

Agriculture faces the competing challenges of enhancing productivity and raising the incomes of smallholder farmers, while simultaneously also addressing concerns related to environmental sustainability. Digital technologies have the potential to tackle these challenges and transform agri food systems in unprecedented ways.

Accurate estimates of habitat extent and rates of change are crucial inputs for the global, regional, and national assessments that guide policy-making and prioritize strategies. This can contribute to an understanding of ecosystems in the landscape for their use, management, and preservation.

This policy brief sheds light on the incentives that can promote deforestation-free cocoa production in Colombia. It proposes steps that decision-makers can take to support Colombia’s vision of a zero-deforestation cocoa supply chain.

The first series of Munda Make Over disseminated information on climate change adaptation, farming as a business, financial inclusion, and improved livelihoods to 654,751 people in Zambia. The information was disseminated on national television between December 2022 and June 2023.
