Mauritânia

Localizados no noroeste da África, mais de três quartos da Mauritânia são desérticos ou semidesérticos. Apenas 0,5% da terra do país é considerada útil para a agricultura, o que equivale a 502.000 ha. No entanto, o setor rural é um pilar importante da economia mauritana, contribuindo com 17% para o PIB e empregando 21% da população ativa. Os 62% da população dependem da agricultura, da pecuária e da pesca para sua subsistência. O país conquistou a independência da França em 1960. Seu passado colonial se reflete em sua legislação que se inspira no Código francês.
