The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

Senegal and FAO
Senegal and FAO have enjoyed a dynamic partnership for several decades, with well over 200 interventions delivered since the mid-1990s alone. The purpose of FAO’s Representation in Senegal is to contribute to the country’s agricultural and rural development efforts in the aim of achieving sustainable food and nutrition security. Through the Dakar-based Subregional Resilience Team for West Africa and the Sahel, FAO also works to develop resilient and sustainable livelihoods throughout the subregion.

The Slovak Republic and FAO
Slovakia joined the Organization in 1993. During the 1990s FAO assistance in the country was focused mainly on forestry and integrated pest management (IPM). The Organization also provided technical support for the development and harmonization of national policies, particularly in the area of forestry and agriculture. Today Slovakia is a resource partner, providing support to a number of activities in the areas of FAO’s mandate, including forestry and food safety.
