Lucayan Indians inhabited the islands when Christopher COLUMBUS first set foot in the New World on San Salvador in 1492. British settlement of the islands began in 1647; the islands became a colony in 1783. Since attaining independence from the UK in 1973, The Bahamas has prospered through tourism, international banking, and investment management. Because of its location, the country is a major transshipment point for illegal drugs, particularly shipments to the US and Europe, and its territory is used for smuggling illegal migrants into the US.

The Bahamas is a parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarchy.

Planning and Subdivision (Application Requirements) Regulations, 2011 (No. 1 of 2011).

These Regulations, made Minister under section 75 of the Planning and Subdivision Act, set out requirements for applications under the Act for, among other things: a Land Use Plan Amendment; a Zoning Bye-law Amendment; approval for a Site Plan; approval of a subdivision; approval for Severance. The Department of Physical Planning may require additional documentation including supporting information for an Environmental Impact Study. The Regulations also concern consideration of applications by the Department and the Town Planning Committee.

Subdivision and Development Appeal Board Rules, 2011 (S.I. No. 3 of 2011).

These Rules, made by the Minister under section 65(5) of the Planning and Subdivision Act, 2010, concern the composition, functions and procedures of the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board established under section II of the Act and provide rules with respect to appeals to be made to the Board from decisions of the Town Planning Committee appointed under section 5(1) of the Act. Subject to section 66 of the Act, a decision of the Board is final.

These Rules implement provisions of the Probate and Administration of Estates Act, 2010 in respect of, among other things; (a) the procedure for: (1) making an application to obtain a grant of: (i) probate of a will; (ii) letters of administration with will annexed; and (iii) letters of administration, of an estate, of a deceased person, where there is no dispute as to the right of the applicant to obtain such a grant; (2) making an application to reseal a foreign gram; (3) lodging a caveat against a grant of probate or administration and warning the caveator; and (4) issuing a citation; (b

These Rules, made by the Minister, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 5(8) of the planning and Subdivision Act, 2010, provide for the constitution of the Town Planning Committee and the procedures of Committee. The Schedule shall have effect with respect to the procedures and administrative matters of the Committee.
