This CGIAR Initiative on Aquatic Foods: Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) Strategy provides guidance on how to undertake AqFS research for development through a gender lens.

Efficient water resources management is essential for the sustainable development of nations, and large dams are an important tool for achieving this endeavor. Here, we present an integrated approach to simulating the impacts of large dams, integrating river systems infrastructure, hydrodynamic, and economywide models.

Smallholder farmers in low- and middle-income countries have limited access to finance, due to the pau city of banks and other financial institutions in rural areas. As a result, banks and other formal financial institutions tend not to know much about farming as a business, and therefore they hesitate to extend credit to farmers.

Located in the region's challenging dry corridor, this innovative plot, supported by CGIAR, CUNORI University, and the CGIAR initiatives on Digital Innovation and AgriLac, is designed to enhance decision-making and efficiency for small-scale farmers.

Integrated pest and disease management (IPDM) represents a range of environmentally-sound approaches to crop protection and is increasingly recognized as an essential component of sustainable agricultural development. To promote the use of IPDM, it is necessary to validate and disseminate effective IPDM options to farming communities.

This policy brief seeks to assess the current ‘state of play’ of Guatemala’s national policy discourse with regards to the intersection of climate change, migration, food and nutritional insecurity, and peace and security. It does so through the deployment of a policy coherence and awareness analysis (PCAA) methodology.

The CGIAR Initiative on Aquatic Foods partnered with the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research’s Water Research Institute (CSIR-WRI), the Fisheries Commission, and collaborated with local government departments and local communities to implement fish cage culture in selected small reservoirs in Ghana.

The whole world has experienced a series of global and local crises since 2019, and Kenya has been no exception. Before the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, poverty and food poverty rates in the country had been declining steadily, falling from 52.3 percent to 36.1 percent and from 38.3 percent to 26.7 percent, respectively, between 1997 and 2016 (KNBS 2007, 2018).

Agriculture is key to economic growth and poverty reduction in Kenya as it plays a pivotal role in employment creation, food security, exports, and sustainable development. In 2019, it directly contributed 22.7 percent of GDP, accounted for 20.9 percent of total exports, and generated 43.3 percent of employment (Chapter 2).

Introduction: Lack of data about saline aquaculture in Pakistan has curtailed informed policy and investment decision making resulting in undervaluation of and underinvestment in the sector. Therefore, saline aquaculture in Pakistan is today an underdeveloped sector despite its potential as an alternative livelihood for the country's rural farmers.
