La presente investigación analiza las dinámicas socioambientales derivadas de la relación y el manejo de los bosques en la parroquia Cosanga, provincia de Napo. Se trata de una población colono que, asentada en la región desde hace más de 50 años, ha desarrollado técnicas agrícolas y ganaderas que han tenido fuertes repercusiones en el medio ambiente y los bosques en particular.
This paper analyses some key findings emerged in the study of the Mayan community of S. Jos Sinach, located in the Guatemalan Highlands. The research highlights how colonial and post-colonial legislation influences the actual land tenure and hampers the development of the community. Little land ownership together with high demographic growth lead to insufficient crop production.
What rural dwellers in the Global South experience as land grabbing, tends to be seen in the Global North as ‘agricultural investment’. The World Bank has been at the forefront of a drive to legitimate these investments, convening to win support for a code of conduct based on Responsible Agricultural Investment (RAI) principles.
