As the largest country wholly within Europe, possessing an abundance of fertile soil, land governance in Ukraine holds great importance to future economic development and prosperity. Already the government has privatized urban housing units and three-quarters of its agricultural land, with provisions for citizens to apply for private land rights to certain categories of remaining public lands. However, key challenges in land administration remain, notably in the establishment of conditions for the lifting of the moratorium on agricultural land transactions.

This report on the assessment of land governance in Brazil summarizes and discusses the results of a series of standardized self-assessments of the land governance situation in Brazil, conducted entirely by Brazilian speakers. Therefore, these findings represent the perception of local experts based on their experience of news and data available. The main aim of this report are federal and state authorities directly involved in land governance in the evaluated states and other states.

The purpose of the toolkit is to help Christian Aid programmes develop and deepen strategies for working on land. It gives an overview of land issues in the global context and offers tips for conducting a power analysis. Strategies from country case studies are grouped into community, national and international responses, and some key lessons and findings are outlined to enable programme staff to identify effective strategies. Risk and conflict are considered with a view to measuring risk and ensuring appropriate protection strategies are put in place.
