National Academic Research and Collaborations Information System (NARCIS) is the main Dutch national portal for those looking for information about researchers and their work. NARCIS aggregates data from around 30 institutional repositories. Besides researchers, NARCIS is also used by students, journalists and people working in educational and government institutions as well as the business sector.
NARCIS provides access to scientific information, including (open access) publications from the repositories of all the Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and a number of research institutes, datasets from some data archives as well as descriptions of research projects, researchers and research institutes.
This means that NARCIS cannot be used as an entry point to access complete overviews of publications of researchers (yet). However, there are more institutions that make all their scientific publications accessible via NARCIS. By doing so, it will become possible to create much more complete publication lists of researchers.
In 2004, the development of NARCIS started as a cooperation project of KNAW Research Information, NWO, VSNU and METIS, as part of the development of services within the DARE programme of SURFfoundation. This project resulted in the NARCIS portal, in which the DAREnet service was incorporated in January 2007. NARCIS has been part of DANS since 2011.
DANS - Data Archiving and Networked Services - is the Netherlands Institute for permanent access to digital research resources. DANS encourages researchers to make their digital research data and related outputs Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

Ecological networks facilitate the mobility and vitality of species populations by providing a network of habitat patches that are embedded in a traversable landscape matrix. Climate change and land-use change pose threats to biodiversity, which can potentially be overcome by ecological networks. Yet, systematic assessments of ecological network performance under conditions of climate change and land-use change are rare. In this special issue we explore and evaluate approaches to assess the functionality of ecological networks under scenarios of global change.
Food in space: The spatial organization of food systems
Contemporary food production is facing many challenges. One of these challenges is to re-connect the food system with various public domains, such as spatial planning. Sustainable food planning is a growing domain in planning research. One of the important topics of research concerns the geographical or territorial properties of the food system. This paper addresses the territorial properties of the agricultural system using different spatial concepts.
Verkenning toegevoegde waarde van data voor omgevingsmanagers : de integratie van ruimtelijke informatie t.b.v. de onderbouwing of objectivering van duurzame gebiedsontwikkeling
In het kader van de natte en droge infrastructuur, is duurzame gebiedsontwikkeling een complex samenspel tussen Rijkswaterstaat, provincies, gemeenten, waterschappen, marktpartijen en andere organisaties. ‘Deze partijen hebben verschillende belangen en werken vanuit hun eigen terrein aan een duurzame leefomgeving.’ Om dit proces te faciliteren is er binnen Rijkswaterstaat de tool Omgevingswijzer ontwikkeld, met als doel de verschillende belangen overzichtelijk in kaart te brengen en zo tot een duurzame oplossing te komen voor het gebied.
Door regelgeving kan het vaak niet zoals je wil
Winnaar van de wedstrijd Topbodem, editie 2014-15, Hans Akkermans probeert alles te doen om zijn bodem in topconditie te houden. Toch merkt hij dat de normen voor fosfaat de ruimte beperken om aan duurzame bodemvruchtbaarheid te werken. Voor een goed saldo neigt hij naar intensievere teelten, voor de bodem naar voldoende rustgewassen.
