National Academic Research and Collaborations Information System (NARCIS) is the main Dutch national portal for those looking for information about researchers and their work. NARCIS aggregates data from around 30 institutional repositories. Besides researchers, NARCIS is also used by students, journalists and people working in educational and government institutions as well as the business sector.

NARCIS provides access to scientific information, including (open access) publications from the repositories of all the Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and a number of research institutes, datasets from some data archives as well as descriptions of research projects, researchers and research institutes.

This means that NARCIS cannot be used as an entry point to access complete overviews of publications of researchers (yet). However, there are more institutions that make all their scientific publications accessible via NARCIS. By doing so, it will become possible to create much more complete publication lists of researchers.

In 2004, the development of NARCIS started as a cooperation project of KNAW Research Information, NWO, VSNU and METIS, as part of the development of services within the DARE programme of SURFfoundation. This project resulted in the NARCIS portal, in which the DAREnet service was incorporated in January 2007. NARCIS has been part of DANS since 2011.

DANS - Data Archiving and Networked Services - is the Netherlands Institute for permanent access to digital research resources. DANS encourages researchers to make their digital research data and related outputs Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

Spatial Cohesion – An indicator for regional assessment of biodiversity in SENSOR

Reports & Research
December, 2009

Habitat fragmentation is in Europe a serious threat for biodiversity caused by intensive land use practices of our population. Spatial cohesion is a sustainability indicator to determine whether the size and connectivity of ecosystem networks is sufficient for sustainable biodiversity protection. This report presents the model LARCH-SCAN that calculates spatial cohesion of forest ecosystems for specific species groups that function on different spatial scales

SimLandscape : eindrapportage SimLandScape, SimWaterScape, SimAirScape

Reports & Research
December, 2009

Land use and land use change for LULUCF reporting under the convention on climate exchange and the Kyoto protocol

Reports & Research
December, 2009
Netherlands

This report aims to give a complete and transparent overview and motivation of all steps involved in the construction of the land use and land use change matrix used for the UNFCCC submission 2009 for LULUCF and onwards. For the 2009 submission to the UNFCCC the land use change matrix was updated and based on an improved wall-to-wall approach derived from topographical maps. Updates in methodology and data sets were included in order to present the best estimate of land use and land use change in The Netherlands that is currently possible.

Knowledge for a sustaineble future of the Wadden: intergrated research agenda of the Wadden-Academy-KNAW

Reports & Research
December, 2009

The Wadden Academy is a new entity of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) which was officially founded on 30 July 2008 by decision of the Dutch government and as a reflection of the recommendations of the Meijer Committee. This publication is the integrated research agenda of the Wadden Academy. Wadden Sea research has for many years been dominated by the natural sciences. Socio-economic research and, to a lesser extent, historical research is grossly under-represented in terms of volume and importance.
