This Act consists of 59 sections divided into 9 Parts: Preliminary provisions (I); Objectives of this Act (II); Administration (III); Bee reserves and zones (IV); Registration of beekeepers (V); Regulation of beekeeping activities (VI); Financial provisions (VII); Offences and penalties (VIII); Miscellaneous provisions (IX).Objectives of the Act are outlined in section 3. A Director responsible for beekeeping matters shall be appointed under section 5. A National beekeeping Advisory Committee is established under section 10. A Bee reserve may be established by the Minister pursuant to section 11. A reserve may be a private bee reserve, a national bee reserve, a local authority bee reserve (sect. 19), or a village bee reserve (sect. 20). Section 16 provides for the management of bee reserves, whereas section 17 lists activities that are prohibited in a reserve without a licence. Joint management agreements may be adopted for bee reserves pursuant to section 18. Section 23 provides for the establishment of beekeeping zones. Development in reserves or zones or nearby environmentally sensitive areas shall be subject to an environment impact assessment (sect. 26). The Minister may establish a beekeepers registration system in accordance with section 27.
