Conflict & Displacement; Current status in Sudan- May 2023

The revised 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for Sudan, issued on 17 May 2023, addresses the escalating violence across the country since 15 April 2023. The document, consolidated by OCHA on behalf of the Humanitarian Country Team and partners, presents coordinated, strategic efforts and associated costs to meet the acute needs of people affected by the crisis. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has caused significant human suffering and exacerbated pre-existing humanitarian needs among the civilian population in Sudan, including urban areas previously not or only marginally covered by the HRP. The revised HRP updates the response strategy in the initial 2023 HRP, focusing on the scale-up of life-saving multisectoral assistance and protection services in line with HRP Strategic Objectives (SO) 1 and 2. This includes adjustments related to implementation approaches and costs. The document provides a comprehensive overview of the humanitarian landscape, including the latest verified information on needs, delivery of the humanitarian response, and financial contributions. It also serves as a tool for strategic decision making, highlighting gaps and priorities, and contributing to effective, efficient, and principled humanitarian assistance.
