The world development report 2010 estimates that an additional $200 billion per year of climate-related financing is needed in developing countries between now and 2030 to keep global average temperature rise within 2 degrees Celsius. Developing countries face increased financing challenges over coming decades as they seek to pursue economic development along a lower emission trajectory.

Wageningen UR (University & Research centre) en het Louis Bolk Instituut hebben in opdracht van het ministerie van Economische Zaken, Landbouw en Innovatie (EL&I), voorheen ministerie van LNV, een visie opgesteld over duurzaam bodembeheer. Ook worden bouwstenen aangedragen voor een kennisagenda. Op basis hiervan kan het beleid prioriteiten stellen voor onderzoek en kennisdoorstroming.

Door een serie technologische innovaties komt duurzaam bodembeheer dichterbij. Een goede zorg voor de bodem is altijd al belangrijk geweest voor de landbouw, maar met de verwachte gevolgen van de klimaatverandering neemt dit belang toe.

De Vereniging Innovatief Platteland (VIP) wil met innovaties en duurzame activiteiten werken aan een duurzame landbouw in het gebied rondom Venray. Werken aan biodiversiteit en duurzaam bodembeheer hoort daar nadrukkelijk bij. Door dit project is een aanzet gegeven in het gebied rondom Venray tot het verder implementeren en doorvertalen van wetenschappelijke kennis naar de praktijk.
