Opportunity for two land governance research consultants

On the opening day of the World Bank’s 2024 Land Conference, organizations of small-scale food producers, Indigenous Peoples, workers, grassroots communities, and civil society denounce the World Bank as a major actor of land grabbing and ecosystem destruction. They call for effective measures to realize the right to land and territories, including agrarian reform.

A project of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, co-funded by the EU and implemented through the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been striving to ensure that investments in land are productive, contribute to sustainable land management, and respect the land access rights and needs of the local population, vulnerable groups and women. After continuous engagement in respective activities, the Responsible Governance of Investments in Land (RGIL) project will phase out by the end of 2023 and is handed over to the government of Ethiopia.

Rigorously researched, written, and peer-reviewed, these comprehensive guides touch on history, politics, and culture, and are aimed at experts and casual readers alike.  As the Land Portal develops the State of Land Information Index (SOLIndex), these profiles will provide important context to understanding country scoring. The Land Portal Foundation has launched a new Land & Investments Portfolio that unpacks the key concepts, terms, international frameworks and policies, and many other aspects critical to understanding how land investments affect society.

The Ethiopian Federal Democratic Republic of Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH implemented Responsible Governance of Investment in Land (RGIL) project has organized the third Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue (MSD) on Responsible Governance of Investment in Land (RGIL) at the national level from 21 to 22 March 2023 here in Addis Ababa. The National MSD aims at enhancing general awareness of responsible agricultural investment in Ethiopia, discussed the key challenges in the large-scale agricultural investment facing Ethiopia and proposes potential policy and legal solutions to the identified bottlenecks in the sector.
