This paper examines such interactions between industrial plantations and hydropower projects, demonstrating that it is the diverse livelihoods of local people – based on everyday use of multiple resources – that crucially connects aquatic and terrestrial environments. The paper presents case studies of social and environmental impacts occurring in the Mekong Region: in the Hinboun River Basin in Central Laos; the Xe Bang Fai River Basin, also in Central Laos; and the Sesan River Basin in northeastern Cambodia.
A book documenting stories of people affected by forced evictions in Cambodia. The personal stories show what is lost when a home is destroyed or livelihood disrupted; and how people living in poverty are routinely excluded from decisions affecting them. Case studies include evictions from Boeung Kak Lake, Battambang, Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Pursat and Kampong Chhnang, Phnom Penh, Kratie and Siem Reap.
Farmers in northern Laos have been experiencing a rapid transformation from subsistence agricultural production to intensive cash crop cultivation over the last decade. The current research examines land-use change patterns and the driving forces behind farmer’s decisions regarding changing land use and selecting crops, particularly in areas along the new North-South Economic Corridor that passes through Luang Namtha and Bokeo provinces in northwestern Laos.
This report published in 2008, shows how, contrary to Cambodia’s obligations under international human rights law, those affected by evictions have had no opportunity for genuine participation and consultation beforehand. Information on planned evictions and on resettlement packages has been incomplete and inaccurate, undermining the rights of those affected to information, and to participate in decisions which affect the exercise of their human rights, in particular the right to adequate housing.

The author discusses the legal framework, governance and empowerment, land valuation, state land leasing, concessions and land use planning. They conclude with policy recommendations. Eight years have passed since the enactment of the 2001 Land Law, which established a framework for the recognition of land and property rights throughout Cambodia. In 2002 the multi-donor supported Land Management and Administration Project (LMAP) was initiated in order to implement key parts of the law and further develop the legal framework. LMAP has since been the key focus for the development of the Cambodian land sector. The project was due to end in December 2009.
The aim of this sub-decree is to privatize a land of which size is 18,838 hectares from the Forest Cover 2002 in Kampong Domrie commune, Chlong District, Kratie province, for social land concessions and other developments.
The state land in amount of 1154 hectares from forest cover 2002 in Taing Samrong commune, Phnom Srouch district, Kampong Speu was privatized for social land concession to allocate to former armed forces and their families.
The forest reserve of which size is 2,111 hectares located in Koun Kriel commune, Samraong district, Oddar Meanchey province was privatized to grant social land concessions and develop the area for military development.
