Topics and Regions
I am an independent consultant and researcher at Isthmus & Strait.
I launched Isthmus & Strait in 2013 to help organizations sharpen their interventions for greater impact through research, evaluation and design. I guide clients in exploring and understanding the contexts in which they work, and through this process help them design solutions that make measurable differences in the lives of people and the places where they live. As a consultant, evaluator, and researcher I am known for my inclusive collaboration, analytical abilities, and unflappable commitment to my work.
My portfolio is focused on social and environmental justice: ensuring that all people have secure rights to the land and resources they depend on, livelihoods that are resilient to climatic and social change, and access to institutions that protect the most vulnerable.
Since the launch of my consulting practice in 2013, I have worked for a number of non-profit and for-profit organizations, including Social Impact, ActionAid International, Landesa (Rural Development Institute), Chemonics International, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), and the International Land Coalition (ILC).
Prior to launching my consulting practice, I served as a Research Associate with Landesa (Rural Development Institute)’s Africa Program team, where I studied factors limiting women’s adoption of climate smart agriculture methods in Burkina Faso, customary rights in peri-urban Ghana, and approaches for transforming land conflicts in Burundi. I also worked as a Research and Evaluation Aide at the City of Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods, and as a Researcher at the Marc Lindenberg Center for International Development, Humanitarian Relief and Global Citizenship at the University of Washington.
I hold an MPA in Policy Analysis and Evaluation from the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance (2009), and a BA in International Relations from Wheaton College (2005). While at Wheaton College I served as a HNGR intern with World Relief in eastern Burkina Faso. I have experience working in Burkina Faso Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire (field research), Senegal, Rwanda (field research), Burundi (field research), Nigeria, Mali, and Haiti. I speak proficient conversational French.
