Wemakor formed Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), where he currently serves as executive director, in keeping with his commitment as a human rights activist.
HRRG is a dynamic media advocacy and human rights NGO that brings together journalists, editors, lawyers, and human rights activists to advance human rights in Ghana and beyond.
Wemakor is also the Co-convener of both the SDG3 and the Youth sub-platform of the Ghana Civil Society Organizations Platform on SDGs, as well as the national focal point for a Pan African Network, the African Network of Young Leaders for Peace and Sustainable Development (ANYL4PSD), based in Cameroon.

In response to the rise in kidnappings in Ghana, Wemakor led the HRRG to launch a nationwide sensitization campaign dubbed “the KTT Project” in 2019 to raise awareness of three key issues: kidnapping, teenage pregnancies, and tramadol/drug abuse.
The campaign team has successfully reached over 60,000 beneficiaries since the program's launch in July 2019, in particular schoolchildren, parents, and youth groups in local communities and places of worship across three regions of Ghana.
The group has received widespread praise for its commitment and passion for its activism roles in protecting and ending rights abuses in Ghana and beyond from individuals, organizations, and institutions both inside and outside Ghana.
The positive feedback that was received inspired the HRRG team of outstanding volunteers to go above and beyond to expand the campaign to include all 16 regions of Ghana.
As a human rights advocacy group on the continent, the HRRG has demonstrated outstanding performance in the field of activism thanks to Joseph Kobla Wemakor's tireless advocacy work, which has helped the HRRG be named among the 10 finalists in the Movement of the Year Award category of the 2020 Africans Rising Activism Awards. At the finals, HRRG finished in fourth place, becoming the sole group to represent Ghana on the continent.
