Emery Nukuri was born in Bujumbura, Burundi. In 2010 he obtained the degree of LLB (University of Burundi). From June 2009 to December 2011, he worked as Legal advisor of the Norwegian Refugee Council. Early in 2012 he worked as a Supporting Lawyer of the Lawyers Without Borders Burundi before being appointed as an assistant lecturer at the Faculty of Law at the University of Burundi. In 2013, he obtained the degre of L.L.M in Human Rights and Peaceful Resolution of Conflicts (University of Burundi) before enrolling for a PhD at the KU Leuven Institute of Property Law where he defended a doctoral thesis entitled "the constitutional protection of the right of land ownership in Burundian law". Having obtained his PhD he was appointed as a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Burundi. Subsequently he has been appointed as Dean of the Institute of Administration and Surveying at the University. He is also a research associate with LADEC in the areas of property law, land law, land governance and the rule of law.
