Location
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information. We help developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all. Since our founding in 1945, we have focused special attention on developing rural areas, home to 70 percent of the world's poor and hungry people.

The terraced structures of Sunny Hills are designed to be built on sloping grounds and along the short valleys or hollows formed on hillsides and coastlines.
This poster is one of a selection of entries from the TREEHOUSING International Wood Design Competition that was run by FAO and DBR | Design Build Research School on the occasion of the XIV World Forestry Congress in Durban, South Africa, in September 2015.The competition challenged architecture students, professional architects and designers to develop innovative and sustainable wood housing and urban building solutions.Tunisia Case Study: Prepared for FAO as part of the <i>State of the World’s Forests 2016 </i>(SOFO)
Forests and woody vegetation cover a total surface area of 1.3 million ha in 2015 (FAO 2015) that represents 8% of the country surface area. It includes 1 million ha of forests and 0.3 Million ha of shrubs and other woody area. The forest area has increased from 643,000 ha in 1990 to 1,041,000 ha in 2015 ((FAO 2015) that corresponds to an increase by 62% in the last twenty five years or an annual increase of 1.9%.

Brazil and FAO
As a founding member of FAO, over the past 70 years Brazil has partnered with FAO to eradicate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition and to improve rural livelihoods. Brazil is a leading partner in FAO´s South-South Cooperation Programme and plays an increasingly important role in the field of emergencies, where it is expected to become a key supporter of FAO’s efforts build resilient livelihoods in the face of threats and crises.
