This report analyses the content of Guatemalan and regional-level Central American policy and strategy documents in order to assess the extent and nature of engagement with the climate, peace, and security nexus, as well as the degree to which cross-sectoral and cross-scalar coherence exists between sectors relevant to the nexus.

Tanzania is the major sunflower producer in the East Africa region. It has a market dominance of
78%, followed by Uganda (21%). It is an important cash crop in Tanzania and has been attributed to
the low cost of production relative to other oilseeds. Moreover, sunflower accounts for 35% of

Bangladesh summer monsoon rainfall (BSMR), typically from June through September (JJAS), represents the main source of water for multiple sectors. However, its high spatial and interannual variability makes the seasonal prediction of BSMR crucial for building resilience to natural disasters and for food security in a climate-risk-prone country.

This report contributes to Output 2.1. Baseline – current conditions of agricultural systems of smallholder farmers in the identified Agroecological Living Landscape (ALL) and provides context to their current state.

Over the past two decades, Vietnam’s GDP per capita has grown ninefold. Concurrently, its agricultural sector has transformed to a strong commercial orientation. At the same time that the share of agriculture in GDP fell from 24.5 percent to 12.6 percent, agricultural value-added grew sixfold from USD 7.5 bn to USD 46 bn (World Bank, 2022).

The 2023 year-end workshop with the national partners from the CGIAR Initiative SIMFS was held on 2 December in Hotel Sarina, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Humnath Bhandari, IRRI Representative for Bangladesh. Scientists from different NARSE organizations (BARI, BRRI, BLRI) were present in this workshop.

Infrastructure projects in fragile and conflict affected settings are susceptible to numerous operational challenges, which might inadvertently escalate existing socio-economic and political tensions. Infrastructure, being intricately connected to the daily lives and societal needs of communities, often becomes a flashpoint in conflicts.

This scoping report combines findings from a scoping visit to the case study location with a review of the literature that describes salient features of the political economy in Sudan. The purpose of this report is to document findings as a contribution to and as preparation for fieldwork on farmer-herder conflicts.

Policies are critical to improving agrifood systems innovations and overall economic performance. While favorable policy decisions shape the incentives and actions of stakeholders, suboptimal policies could create bottlenecks and hinder development progress (Haggblade and Babu 2017; Resnick et al. 2018).
