Magdalena Anna Kropiwnicka is food systems and land policy advisor, independent consultant and member of the Board of Directors of the Land Portal Foundation since 2015. She has over 20 years of progressive experience including active role with the United Nations Agencies and the European Union multilateral processes as well as in the non for profit management building partnerships with local organizations at both community and local government level. Since 2010 founder of independent consultancy Food and Climate whose clients included European Commission (DEVCO), DFID, ILC, IJM and various international NGOes. Worked for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme as well as the Food and Hunger Coordinator opening ActionAid Rome office in Italy vis-à-vis United Nations Agencies and co-managing the International Food Security Network (IFSN) in 28 countries. In 2010 advised the Chair of the UN Committee on Food Security (CFS) facilitating an in-depth UN system reform, and in 2011 was elected as Chair of the Rome-based EU and Swiss Working Group on Land as the EU’s key negotiator of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security.
Assignments with Food and Climate have ranged from impact evaluations of biofuels policies, field and scoping research studies to facilitation of strategic policy advice. Extensive mission travel experience in developing countries, especially South Eastern Africa and Latin America.
Magdalena holds an M.A. in International Development and Post Graduate Certificate in International Law and Diplomacy from St. John's University, Rome campus, Italy and B.A. honours summa cum laude in Economic Studies and B.A. honours summa cum laude in Political Studies from Marymount Manhattan College, New York City.
