Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (Chinese version)

The primary goal of the "Voluntary Guidelines for the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests within the Scope of National Food Security" is to achieve food security for all and to support the progressive realization of the right to adequate food within the scope of national food security.

While supporting efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty, the Guidelines also aim to promote the realization of sustainable livelihoods, social stability, housing security, rural development, environmental protection, and sustainable social and economic development.

Although the "Guidelines" mainly emphasize vulnerable and marginalized groups, the ultimate goal is to benefit all people in all countries. The Guidelines are used as a reference to formulate principles and internationally recognized operating standards to promote responsible tenure governance. The Guidelines provide a framework for countries to use when formulating their own strategies, policies, laws, plans and activities. The Guidelines allow governments, civil society, the private sector and citizens to determine whether their proposed actions and the actions of others are acceptable practices.

Through intergovernmental consultations involving civil society, the private sector and research institutions, the Guidelines were finally formulated.

The Guidelines were formally adopted by the Committee on World Food Security on May 11, 2012 . Since then, the G20, Rio+20, the United Nations General Assembly, the Assembly of Francophone Parliamentarians and other organizations have encouraged the implementation of the "Guidelines."
