The Aligned National Action Programme (NAP) for Grenada’s Commitment under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and Drought is a cross-sectoral national programme of Grenada for the period of 2015-2020. Its main objective is to prevent land degradation, and restore 10% of degraded land by 2020, and mitigate the effects of drought and other climatic shocks. The NAP is structured around five Operational Objectives. The first Operation Objective is Advocacy, Awareness Raising and Education. This Operational Objective seeks to actively influence relevant international, regional, national and community based processes and actors in adequately addressing land degradation and drought related concerns. The second Operational Objective is Policy Framework improvement which is designed to support the creation of an enabling environment for promoting solutions to combat land degradation and mitigate the effects of drought. It therefore addresses existing deficiencies in the systemic framework for sustainable land management, with specific emphasis on the policy, legislative and institutional arrangements. The third Operative Objective is Science, Technology and Knowledge which advocates for changes that will position Grenada to become a leader on scientific and technical knowledge pertaining to land degradation and drought mitigation. The forth Operational Objective is Capacity Building which recommends priorities for curbing existing capacity related deficiencies. Finally, the fifth Operational Objective is Financing and Technology Transfer which is designed to mobilize and improve the targeting and coordination of national, bilateral and multi-lateral financial and technological resources for the NAP implementation. The implementation of the NAP will be coordinated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment with direct oversight and monitoring provided by the UNCCD National Coordinating Body. All key stakeholders inclusive of government ministries, civil society organizations, science and technology institutions and the private sector will be engaged in implementing the specific interventions of the NAP, with the aspiration of attaining zero net land degradation in the medium to long term.
