The Excellence in Agronomy (EiA) Initiative supports the evaluation and scaling of mechanized direct seeding in Cambodia. To enhance its existing scaling strategy, a workshop on Innovation Packaging and Scaling Readiness (IPSR) was held on 25 August in Phnom Penh. The workshop focused on the challenges, solutions, innovation readiness and innovation use of mechanized direct seeded rice (mDSR) in Cambodia. Around 30 participants coming from the government, private sector and NGO attended the event.
EiA Cambodia’s core innovation is mDSR. It has two components – mechanized row seeding and tailored agronomy which is composed of the different management practices from land preparation to crop establishment, fertilizer management, water management, pest management and harvesting. The scaling ambition of the innovation is that:
“By 2024, EiA and partners will work together with the MAFF, manufacturers, NGOs to stimulate the uptake of mechanized direct seeded rice (mDSR) by 80 farmer cooperatives, and a total of 10,000 farmers in Cambodia contributing to adoption of mDSR and increased rice production by 10%.â€
