Regional Law No. 75-OZ “On classification of land parcels as urban land, declassification of urban land parcels and establishment or modification of authorized land tenure”.

This Regional Law establishes that after the conclusion of local government on utility of classification of land parcels as urban land, declassification of urban land parcels and establishment or modification of authorized land tenure the Regional Government shall make decisions on classification or declassification of urban land.

Accurate estimations of the extent of agricultural land abandonment (ALA) are critical to the sustainable management of agricultural resources and forestry, the understanding of ALA determinants, and the development of future agricultural policies. Although ALA is widespread in Europe, mapping it over large areas using remote sensing data is difficult as a result of the complexity of this phenomenon. This study aims to develop methods for a detailed wall-to-wall regional-scale mapping of ALA using vegetation height and secondary forest succession indicators.

Cadastral mapping in Pakistan is often sketched on paper or cloth and generally falls below cartographic standards, lacking details on coordinate systems, datum and directional information of parcel lines. Survey numbers for parcel identification also lack digital interoperability. Parcel measurements and ownership information are manually recorded in multiple separate registers. The objective of this study is to leverage geospatial technology for automation, auditing and validation of present manual cadastral mapping in Pakistan.

The current land administration system in Pakistan aims at land revenue assessment and tax collection for the fiscal purposes. This system is organised or structured on the traditional land registers and cadastral maps in paper formats, and their maintenance is mainly dependent on the hard works of the local land administrator so called “Patwari” at the grass-root level within his jurisdiction.

Cadastral parcels valuation is a very important aspect when defining the priorities for the selection of newly formed parcels in the reallocation processes. Land reallocation involves a new redistribution of land parcels in the project implementation area. In doing so, it is necessary to take into account the preferences of private owners, the value of cadastral parcels, and their bonitet values, whose determination is the basic task of this research.

Long-term impact of rainfed agricultural land abandonment on soil erosion in the Western Mediterranean basin

Land abandonment is widespread in the Mediterranean mountains. The impact of agricultural abandonment results in a shift in ecosystem evolution due to changes in soil erosion, but little is known about long-term soil and water losses. This paper uses 11 years of measurements in two paired plots (abandoned vs control) with four subplots to determine how soil and water losses evolved after abandonment within an agricultural parcel. For two years (2004–2005) both plots were under tillage, and after 2006 one plot was abandoned.

Particularly;the current practice of LIFTs implementation of procedures for registering deceased landholders parcels and its impact on single orphans. The study provides a strategy to ensure that orphans who have lost either one or both parents receive long-term access to their land use rights .This resource was published in the frame of the Land Investment for Transformation (LIFT) Programme.

Communities in Africa fight back against the land grab for palm oil

This research investigates threats to women’s land rights and explores the effectiveness of land certification interventions using evidence from the Land Investment for Transformation (LIFT) program in Ethiopia. The research aims to provide evidence on the extent that LIFT contributed to women’s tenure security. Quantitative information was analyzed from the profiles of more than seven million parcels to understand how the program had incorporated gender interests into the Second Level Land Certification (SLLC) process.
