GIZ Knowledge Exchange Workshop 2024 in Senegal Took a Deep Dive on Anchoring Practitioners’ Experience in Responsible Land Governance Systems

As part of its efforts to promote secure land tenure in Africa, three Programmes of German Development Cooperation joined hands and brought together 120 land experts from 17 countries to discuss Responsible Land Governance Systems in Somone, Senegal on 7-11 October 2024. These were: the “Global Programme on Responsible Land Policy” (GPRLP), the “Global Programme Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Governance in Africa” (SLGA) and the bilateral project “Seen Suuf - Support for the improvement of land management”. This was the second such workshop after the Knowledge Exchange Workshop in June 2022 in Uganda, entitled "Secure Land Rights – Learning, Collaboration and Practice", and was intended to deepen exchanges as well as share lessons learned.

NEWS: Land Portal welcomes 2024 World Bank Land Conference materials into the Land Library

December 3, 2024 — At the Land Portal, we are committed to advancing the accessibility and long-term sustainability of knowledge on land governance. The World Bank Land Conference is one of the premier venues for knowledge exchange on land, and we were thrilled when the organizers requested our support in making the 2024 conference session materials available to the public in our Land Library, which now hosts over 73,000 publications on land governance. 

 

Land rights matter: Impact of the project for Responsible Land Policy (ProPFR) in the Centre region of Cameroon

The project "Responsible Land Policy" (ProPFR) in Cameroon is being implemented since January 2023 and contributes to strengthening land use rights in the Centre Region of Cameroon (primarily in the municipalities of Nanga-Eboko and Yoko), safeguarding the livelihoods of the rural population and simultaneously promoting the protection and restoration of forest-rich landscapes. This article provides an overview of the progress of the project and its impact.

The Struggles for Land Podcast gives a voice to those fighting for access to land and defending the commons. Focusing on one major theme per episode, the podcast interviews and brings together farmers' organizations, social movements, environmental protection and the defense of the commons, as well as researchers and consumer associations. These exchanges between actors from the four corners of the globe enable us to better understand the local and international stakes, the successes and the difficulties of these mobilizations, which all have in common that they are working towards a society based on peasant and feminist agriculture in harmony with ecosystems. The Land Portal at the World Bank Land Conference 2024

For over two decades, the World Bank Land Conference has been an important and necessary forum for the land sector, bringing together participants from governments, development partners, civil society, academia, and the private sector to showcase research, discuss issues and good practice, and inform policy dialogue. The Conference encourages cross-sectoral knowledge exchange and this year, the Land Portal team is eager to attend the relaunched Land Conference from May 13-17, 2024 in Washington, DC.
