Pastoralists in Isiolo county in northern Kenya feel under siege;with their way of life under threat. Isiolo has been the home of the Waso Boran pastoralists for many decades;but attacks from neighbouring Somali herders;encroachments by agriculturalists from Meru;expansion of conservancies and planned road;pipeline and resort city mega-projects are affecting all pastoral livelihoods;creating many new risks and environmental uncertainties. Droughts are occurring more frequently. Market uncertainties are important;regarding access to milk;meat and live animals.

Yet, its practice is constrained by limited access to land, unplanned land and the prevalence of claims that the practice is incompatible with non-agricultural and environmental conservation.Goal and objectiveThis study was conducted to investigate the regulation of urban agriculture through land-use planning and institutional frameworks.

Context and background:
Urban green areas are critical in generating community social, economic, environmental, and health advantages. However, clear and reliable data on the spatial extent, distribution, accessibility, and attractiveness of green spaces and parks in the three African cities (Addis Ababa, Kumasi, and Musanze) are severely lacking. As a result, the study sought to map and appraise the distribution of existing green spaces and parks, as well as investigate their attractiveness and physical and economical accessibility to various communities.

Context and background:Reconciling the sectoral interests of urban planning and agriculture is a challenge. The idyllic ambition to plan the city while enhancing agricultural land through a planning tool is subject to conflicts of use and divergent stakeholder logics.Goal and objectives:This study highlights the problem of conflicts between urban planning and agricultural land. The aim is to identify ways of objectifying and rationalizing the planning process in order to regulate these conflicts.

Green systems play a significant role in the resilience of cities. However, the rate of disappearance is increasing in the global south and affects the resilience of cities. But their disappearance has been associated with inadequate cooperation of actors. Goal and Objectives:This paper aims to examine the capacity of actors to cooperate and how they influence the maintenance of urban green systems in Dar es Salaam City. Methodology:Dar es Salaam City was used as a case study.

There is little documentation about the status, management, and governance of the communal grasslands of Ethiopia's highlands. However, research being carried out by ILRI (International Livestock Research Institute) in northern Shewa, Amhara region, is highlighting their importance as a critical resource for those farmers engaged in mixed crop-livestock livelihood systems across the highland areas. These grassland areas range from 2 to 200 hectares and can be used by up to four different villages or �kebele' and providing on average 10-20% of livestock feed for local farmers.

CONTEXT
Population pressure, land scarcity and encroachment of nature reserves are challenging sustainable intensification of agriculture in Uganda. One of the main staple crops in Uganda is East African Highland banana. Area expansion and improved management have enhanced the economic performance of banana, yet at the expense of food security, environmental and social sustainability. While a transition of banana-based farming systems to a more sustainable future seems necessary, the desired future state and pathways of getting there may differ among actors involved.
