La presente Ley de Reforma Agraria tiene como finalidad la transformación de la estructura agraria del país y la facilitación de su desarrollo económico y social, mediante la sustitución del régimen de latifundio y minifundio por un sistema justo de propiedad, tenencia y explotación de la tierra.

Regional Law No. 69 “On establishment of the value of land plots within inhabited areas destined for agricultural production”.

This Regional Law establishes that plots of agricultural land within the boundaries of inhabited areas and destined for agricultural production, free of constructions and edifices, allotted on lease on condition of permanent (open-ended) land tenure as a result of renewal of lease contract or renewal of the right of hereditary possession of such land with the right of lease can be purchased in ownership by lease holder at the cost of 15 percent of cadastre value of such plots of land.

The present Regulations are made under the Lands Act. In particular, the Regulations provide for the control of development activities in the St. John’s Urban Region. Section 4 lays down provisions relating to the control of development and establishes that a development shall not be carried out within the development area described in the Schedule except in accordance with the present Regulations. The text consists of 25 sections.

Article 1 shall be amended to add the following wording: “Privatization of agricultural land plots pertaining to regional or municipal public ownership shall be performed in accordance with Land Code and federal legislation three years after entry into force of this Regional Law”.

Agreement between the Government of The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and The Government of The State of Eritrea

This peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea ad seeks to resolve the misunderstanding between the parties regarding their common border and establish a neutral Boundary Commission. The parties agree that the delimitation and demarcation determinations of the Commission shall be final and binding. Each party shall respect the border so determined, as well as territorial integrity and sovereignty of the other party. The Agreement also provides for the eatblishment of a a neutral Claims Commission.

This Ministerial Decree establishes that Department on cadastre and registration of rights to immovable property shall be responsible for keeping land cadastre, mapping, registration of rights to immovable property and ensuring legal protection of registered rights to immovable property.

The current market driven pressures on natural resources create both challenges and opportunities for communities and governments to use and strengthen communal tenure in order to promote sustainable management of some natural resources.
