Niraj Jain is a Senior Lecturer of Land Economy/ Real Estate in the School of the Built Environment at the Copperbelt University (Zambia). He is a a Land Economist having studied at Cambridge University (UK) and the Copperbelt University (Zambia). He is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society and the Surveyors Institute of Zambia. A practicing member of the Zambia Institute of Estate Agents. Besides delivering lectures in real estate development, management, finance and investment analysis, Niraj has been involved in several research works (domestic and international) including: the Consuming Urban Poverty project funded by ESRC/ Dfid 2015-2017; ‘Cash economy, customary land tenure and rural livelihoods in Zambia: A Case of Lufwanyama district’ funded by the USAID, 2016-2017; ‘Investigating customary land tenure and spatial planning in urban fringes of Zambia: A case of north of Lusaka City’, 2016- 2018 funded by the Copperbelt University; and others. His research interests are mainly inclined towards land tenure security with emphasis on customary land holding. Niraj is the author/co- author of several peer reviewed journal articles, book chapters, research and consultancy reports on the diverse areas of land economy/ real estate. Niraj has published with: Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy; Real Estate Management and Valuation Journal; International Journal of Social Science Studies; Pacific Rim Property Research Journal; and International Journal of Social Science Research. He is a former Head of Department of Real Estate Studies (2007-2014). Niraj has also served on the Zambia Institute of Estate Agents (ZIEA)- a national body regulating the estate agency profession in Zambia and is a member of the Higher Education Authority (HEA) Committee of Experts.
