Opulus Press was founded in 1989, and became soon involved in science publishing. We strongly believe that also small companies can produce fast and high quality publishing and information services. It is our aim to offer top journals at affordable prices, and we are proud that both Applied Vegetation Science and the Journal of Vegetation Science are included in the SPARC Alternative programme. The Alternative program supports lower-cost, directly competitive journals as an alternative for academic disciplines formerly dependent on high-priced journals. Opulus has its offices in the village of Grangärde, situated in the countryside in the middle part of Sweden.

Closing the gap between plant ecology and Quaternary palaeoecology

Journal Articles & Books
Diciembre, 2014

Ecology and Quaternary palaeoecology have largely developed as parallel disciplines. Although both pursue related questions, information exchange is often hampered by particularities of the palaeoecological data and a communication gap has been perceived between the disciplines. Based on selected topics and developments mainly in Quaternary palaeoecology, we show that both disciplines have converged somewhat during recent years, while we still see untapped potential for closer interactions.

indicator framework for the climatic adaptive capacity of natural ecosystems

Journal Articles & Books
Diciembre, 2011
Hungría

Questions: Can the climatic adaptive capacity of natural ecosystems be estimated with using landscape indicators based on vegetation or land-cover data? Can species distribution model (SDM) outputs be enhanced using such indicators? What are the data requirements and optimal parameter values of potential indicators? Location: Indicator framework: unspecified. Case study: Kiskunság, Hungary. Methods: (1) We define a general framework for handling adaptation in ecological climate change impact assessments based on IPCC definitions.

Addressing data property rights concerns and providing incentives for collaborative data pooling: the West African Vegetation Database approach

Journal Articles & Books
Diciembre, 2011

Question: How can quantitative data from vegetation surveys best be assembled in a large regional vegetation database? What effects have intellectual property rights concerns of individual and institutional data holders on data contribution and how can incentives to contribute data be generated? Location: West Africa, with discussion of a possible approach to dealing with property rights concerns being of wider interest.

role of landscape configuration in plant composition of floodplain forests across different physiographic areas

Journal Articles & Books
Diciembre, 2010

Questions: What is the relative importance of landscape variables compared to habitat quality variables in determining species composition in floodplain forests across different physiographic areas? How do species composition and species traits relate to effects of particular landscape variables? Do lowland and mountain areas differ in effects of landscape variables on species composition? Location: Southern Czech Republic. Methods: A total of 240 vegetation relevés of floodplain forests with measured site conditions were recorded across six physiographic areas.
