The implementation of Agenda 2063 has gathered momentum at all levels. The continent has made some remarkable
progress towards attaining the goals defined in Agenda 2063’s First Ten-Year Implementation Plan as outlined in this
report.

Influenced by international trends, as well as in response to population, climate, resource and development needs, the standards, norms, mechanisms and incentives in natural resources law at the national level have evolved in recent years. Natural resources laws are influenced by developments in the international arena, either through international treaties that are binding or through ‘soft law’ instruments that are not legally binding but nevertheless have widespread adherence among governments, or that provide principles that guide and shape national legislation.

In a world in which poverty is increasingly concentrated in vulnerable or fragile states, and fragility is increasingly driven by climate change, climate-induced displacement has become one of the most visible manifestations of the relationship between ecological and societal breakdown. Newest figures from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre reveal that over 70% of the 33 million newly displaced people (2019) had climate-related triggers.

The UNCCD-SPI technical report “Realising the Carbon Benefits of Sustainable Land Management Practices: Guidelines for Estimation of Soil Organic Carbon in the Context of Land Degradation” provides decision guidance for the estimation of soil organic carbon (SOC) in support of appropriate deployment of sustainable land management (SLM) technologies, in order to maintain or increase carbon in the soil and contribute to the achievement of land degradation neutrality (LDN).

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published its Climate Change and Land: An IPCC Special Report on climate change, desertification, land degradation, sustainable land management, food security, and greenhouse gas fluxes in terrestrial ecosystems in 2019 (www.ipcc.ch/srccl). We refer to the IPCC’s report in short here as the Special Report on Climate Change and Land. The Special Report was a response to proposals from governments and observer organisations to the IPCC.

Gender equity is a matter of fundamental human rights and social justice, as well as a pre-condition for sustainable development. The empowerment of women and gender equity has been recognized as a significant driver of development, enhancing the effectiveness of programs, projects, and initiatives.

La gobernanza sostenible de la tierra requiere que todos los miembros de una comunidad, tanto mujeres como hombres, tengan los mismos derechos y voz en las decisiones que afectan a sus tierras de propiedad colectiva. Lamentablemente, las mujeres de todo el mundo tienen menos  tierra en propiedad y derechos más débiles que los hombres, pero esto puede cambiar, y este informe muestra cómo hacerlo.

El monocultivo de la Palma Aceitera ha crecido de manera exponencial en el estado de Chiapas, sobre todo en los últimos 20 años. En la actualidad, conforme datos oficiales, se estima que el 43.74% de palma aceitera sembrada en México, se encuentra en Chiapas. Esta situación, ha traído graves consecuencias para la vida de los pueblos y mujeres indígenas.

Desde el asesinato de Berta Cáceres en 2016 hasta el 2021, al menos 21 defensoras de tierra y territorio han sido asesinadas en Mesoamérica. Otras 45 defensoras sufrieron intentos de asesinato. Entre 2016 y 2019, registramos un total de 7141 agresiones, 1 de cada 4 de estas fueron dirigidas a defensoras de tierra y territorio. Casi la mitad de las agresiones ocurrieron en Honduras. La mitad de las agresiones entre 2019 y 2020 fueron realizadas por agentes estatales; las empresas realizaron 3 de cada 10.

En Luchas de alto riesgo: Las mujeres en primera línea en la defensa de la tierra y el territorio se documenta de qué manera las organizaciones campesinas, indígenas y de mujeres que trabajan en el campo del desarrollo rural en Guatemala, Honduras y Colombia, experimentan los riesgos que conlleva su trabajo y militancia relacionada con las tierras, los territorios y los derechos humanos.

Más de 10 años después de la oleada de grandes transacciones de tierras (las GTT) en países en desarrollo y que siguió al aumento, de finales de la década del 2000, en los precios de las materias primas agrícolas, la Iniciativa Land Matrix hace balance de la “carrera mundial por la tierra”, y de sus repercusiones ambientales y socioeconómicas. A partir de la base de datos Land Matrix y de una revisión bibliográfica para analizar y comprender mejor los amplios efectos de las GTT, nuestras conclusiones son aleccionadoras y, en parte, alarmantes.

La lucha de las mujeres por el acceso a la tierra es una cuestión de vieja data en la región. Factores históricos, políticos y socioculturales han sido parte de las barreras que han impedido a las mujeres, la tenencia y manejo de la tierra. Pero en las últimas décadas muchas de estas mujeres se han organizado para luchar con más fuerzas por este derecho.

Aunque la dinámica, los procesos y el contexto son diferentes, la lucha siempre es la misma: hacer realidad el derecho de las mujeres a tener su propia tierra.
